After 21 demolitions of the Bedouin village of Al-Arakib in Israel's Negev desert, Jewish Voice for Peace, the Jewish Alliance for Change, and our many partners finally have a victory to report! On March 24, the Jewish National Fund dismantled its work camp and left without completing drilling the holes for the trees that were to cover up the theft and destruction of Bedouin land.
This means we have won, that all your calls, Facebook posts, and petition signatures got the message through loud and clear: "No more forests on confiscated Bedouin land!" And this hopefully means that the villagers of Al-Arakib who have been steadfastly rebuilding their village every time will not have to do so again, that they will be able to exercise their human right to live on their land as any of us would want to. Thank you for your stand for justice. You have been joined recently in this campaignby the Meretz Party in Israel and the Reform Jewish Movement, also of Israel.
While this is a great victory on the ground, we need to make sure it is permanent, please click here to email Jewish National Fund World Chairman Efi Stenzler in Jerusalem and tell him to publicly announce a JNF freeze on all home demolitions and forestation in the unrecognized Bedouin villages until Israeli courts issue final rulings on the land's ownership, and a just and mutually agreed solution for these villages is reached between the Israeli government and the Negev Bedouin community.
